Frequently asked questions about Exam Generator
What is a multiple choice exam generator?
A multiple choice exam generator is a tool that creates multiple choice assessments automatically. Instead of writing each question by hand in a word processor, the teacher loads the questions and options once, and the generator produces versions ready to print or take on screen. This online exam generator also creates multiple versions of the same exam with shuffled questions and options, so students cannot copy from each other.
What are versions A, B, C and D for?
Each version has exactly the same questions but in a different order, and the answer options within each question are also shuffled differently. A student with Version A and another with Version B see the same questions in a different order and with the option letters swapped, making copying useless. This multiple choice exam generator produces up to 4 distinct versions in a single click.
How do I import my own questions?
Click 'Import text' and paste your questions in this format: Question | Option A | Option B | Option C* | Option D. The asterisk at the end of an option marks it as the correct answer. You can include between 2 and 4 options per question. You can also load questions from the built-in subject bank (History, Math, Natural Sciences, Language Arts, Geography) or combine your own questions with bank questions.
What do the printable PDFs include?
The printable exams include: a header with title and subject, a color badge with the version (Version A, B, C or D), lines for the student to fill in name, date and score, all questions numbered with their answer options, and an answer key section at the end of each sheet for quick grading. A separate page is generated per version, ready to print directly from the browser.
How does the on-screen exam station work?
The exam station turns this generator into an interactive tool. The teacher selects which version the next student takes (or activates automatic rotation A→B→C→D), the student types their name, answers all the questions on screen and submits. The system calculates the score instantly and shows whether they passed based on the configured passing percentage. The teacher can view the scores table at any time with the average, number of passes and pass rate for the group.
Can I set a time limit for the exam?
Yes. In the settings you can enable the timer and set how many minutes each student has to complete the exam. The time bar is shown on screen and turns orange when 25% of the time remains and flashing red in the last minute. When the time runs out, the exam is automatically submitted with whatever answers the student has marked up to that point.
Is this online exam generator free?
Yes, this exam generator is completely free and requires no sign-up, download or installation. It runs directly in the browser from any device. Exam data is not stored on any server — everything is processed locally, so you can also use it offline once the page has loaded.
