Frequently asked questions about Word Chain (Pasapalabra)

How does the Word Chain (Pasapalabra) work?

The game shows a wheel with the letters of the alphabet. For each letter there is a clue whose answer starts with that letter. The teacher reads the clue and the team has a set time to answer. If they don't know, they can say 'pass' and the letter returns to the end for another attempt. Correct letters turn green, incorrect ones red and passed ones yellow. The round ends when all letters are answered.

Is it free? Do I need to sign up?

Yes, it is completely free. You do not need to create an account, sign up, or install anything. Open the link in any browser and start playing in seconds. It works on computer, tablet and smartphone, and is designed for projecting in class.

Can I use my own words in the wheel?

Yes. In settings choose 'My words' and complete a table with the letters of the alphabet, writing the answer (the word to guess) and the clue for each letter. You can fill in only the letters you want to use; those left blank don't appear in the wheel. This lets you fully customize the game for any topic or unit being taught.

What pre-designed word banks does it include?

11 thematic banks with 26 complete letters: Natural Sciences, History and Geography, Language and Literature, Mathematics, Human Body, Animals, Technology, Environment, Art and Music, Sports and General Culture. There is also a Mix mode that selects words at random from all topics.

How does duel mode work?

In duel mode, two teams compete on the same wheel alternately. Team 1 and Team 2 answer letters in turns: one for each. Each team's points are tracked separately. When the wheel is complete, the one who answered the most letters correctly is the winner. It is an excellent way to generate friendly competition between two groups in class.

For which educational level is it appropriate?

Ideal for upper elementary (4th, 5th and 6th grade) and all secondary levels. With pre-designed banks it works perfectly for those levels. Using custom words, you can adapt it to any level and subject, since you control which words are used and how difficult the clues are.

What happens when a letter's time runs out?

When a letter's timer reaches zero, it is automatically recorded as passed and the letter goes to the end of the queue for a second attempt. You can configure the time per letter at 15, 30, 45 or 60 seconds, or choose no time limit so the teacher manages the pace manually.

Can it be projected in class with a projector or interactive whiteboard?

Yes. The wheel, the current letter's clue and the scores are all visible at a distance thanks to the typography size and design contrast. The teacher operates the tool from the computer and confirms the group's answers.

What pedagogies support this game?

Word Chain falls within Game-Based Learning and Purposeful Gamification: it uses a television game show mechanic to work vocabulary, key concepts and content review. It also aligns with Question-Based Learning (progress depends on answering correctly) and with Formative Assessment, since the teacher can identify in real time which concepts the group handles well and which need reinforcement.

What competencies does Word Chain develop?

Beyond vocabulary and concept review, the game works assertive communication (expressing ideas precisely in limited time), Metacognition (students evaluate live what they know and don't know), Frustration tolerance (managing the error gracefully by passing), and in duel mode, Collaboration within the team and strategic thinking when deciding whether to pass or answer.
